Impacts on Structures from forces in Landslides
There are three main forces within the natural disaster, landslides and I will briefly explain to you each force's impact on structures. The first force I will explain is the driving force in landslides, gravity. Gravity is the forces that pulls any object toward the ground and it can be altered depending on the inclination of the object. If structures are built on or near the bottom of steep hills, it can lead to structures being pulled along with the landslides even after it has left the hill from the kinetic energy it has gained from going down the hill. The next force is a resisting force and it's friction. Friction creates an environment where the dirt, mud, soil, and earth is rubbing against the structure which creates friction and will slowly destroy the structure from the outside. The last force is stress and it is also a resisting force, stress can make structures be destroyed by slowly creating weight on the structure from the dirt, mud, and earth which would lead to the building being destroyed unless the structure has enough weight itself to suppress/overpower the stress.
